Welcome to Security Steps Antispyware page. This section teaches you about the troubles, the bother and the dangers of spyware and how you can get rid of it.
What is Spyware?
There are many types of Spyware (Keyloggers, Adware, etc) but they are all generalised under the name Spyware. Some are more dangerous than others though. To see each type of Spyware and some meanings to general words please take a look at the Spyware section in the I Security Dictionary. Spyware is generally software or cookies designed to catch users surfing habits or personal details. Sometimes this can be harmful if Credit Card details are captured, but other times annoying, when advertisers can track down where your surfing and bombard you with spam and popup adverts.
Will I have any on my machine? I’m not stupid enough to download it!
When I first started out on the internet I didn’t have a clue about spyware. I didn’t even know what spyware was. Most Internet Users download spyware without realising it. Kazaa, one of the most popular P2P File Sharing Services is loaded with Spyware to bombard you with advertising. Kazaa and its spyware is hard to get rid of so we have provided a special removal tool for Kazaa at I Security Downloads. If you read the Kazaa privacy policy they do actually mention it, but try to make it sound like brilliant enhancements for your benefit. Some users see advertisements for useful downloads and download them, totally unaware they are giving away their personal details. Theres also banner adverts you get warning that your computer clock could be wrong and you can download great enhancements to get it correct that contain programs to bombard you with adverts. So you could have cluttered up your own computer without even knowing. Just try to be more careful, because these companies are sneaky. Then theres the malicious programs that are sometimes buried in other programs or downloaded without your knowledge or permission. So there is a very good chance that your computer is filled with spyware.
How do I check whether theres any on my computer?
Go to our Scan Online page and scroll down to the bottom where you can scan your own computer. Click the Pestpatrol’s www.pestscan.com, scan for spyware online button. This will give you a list of threats and where they are located. The scanner does not remove anything from your computer, but just tells you whats there.
How do I get rid of Spyware and stop it from coming back?
There are many programs you can get to scan for spyware and remove or stop it installing in the first place. You can see some of the most popular software reviewed by us in I Security Labs. You also find that the biggest problem when scanning is tracking cookies. It is useful to get a program that manages cookies or deletes them all at regular intervals. See some we’ve reviewed here at I Security Labs.
We’ve found that Spyware is the most common problem on the internet. If you get adequate protection by visiting I Security Labs and scan regularly, Spyware could just be an unpleasant memory to you.
